{"id":2609,"date":"2020-04-14T16:02:35","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T16:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.madagascarwhalesharks.org\/?p=2609"},"modified":"2020-04-14T16:02:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T16:02:35","slug":"results-from-the-2019-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madawhalesharks.org\/fr\/results-from-the-2019-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Results from the 2019 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Version Fran\u00e7aise ci-dessous.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After a lot of work, we can finally unveil the figures from the 2019 season, our biggest season yet in terms of effort and collected data!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>97 boat survey days<\/li>\n<li>18 volunteers helping to collect data at sea<\/li>\n<li>554 interviews collected to valuing the marine megafauna tourism industry in Nosy Be<\/li>\n<li>1 expedition in order to visit another potential whale shark feeding site<\/li>\n<li>413 photo-identified encounters with whale sharks<\/li>\n<li>150 individuals identified, with 17 females and 121 males<\/li>\n<li>63 of these sharks were already present in our database like Michel, Ernest, Th\u00e9odore, Ignace&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>87 newly-identified sharks<\/li>\n<li>19 stereo-video measurements, a tool designed to measure whale shark length more accurately\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>5.2m is (still!) the mean size<\/li>\n<li>18 encounters with Michel, now seen 84 times since 2015!<\/li>\n<li>408 sharks identified since 2015!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An epic season! Still none of the 408 immature Nosy Be sharks have been identified from surrounding countries (based on the global database at <a href=\"http:\/\/whaleshark.org\">www.whaleshark.org<\/a>), suggesting a lack of regular connectivity between the sharks at Nosy Be and other known coastal aggregations in the Western Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-image\">A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this year&rsquo;s data collection, and helped in one way or another!<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph \/-->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>In these weird times, we are keeping busy working on the data for upcoming publications. What happens regarding the season remains unknown, and we will keep you posted&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Stay safe everybody!<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><em>All data, photos and figures are the exclusive property of the Madagascar Whale Shark Project, unless stated otherwise, and are not to be copied or reproduced in any manner without authorisation from the authors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2610\" src=\"https:\/\/www.madagascarwhalesharks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/P1170910-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"744\" height=\"558\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s un premier trimestre de dur labeur \u00e0 trier les donn\u00e9es, nous pouvons enfin d\u00e9voiler les chiffres de la saison 2019, notre plus grosse saison \u00e0 ce jour en termes d&rsquo;effort et de donn\u00e9es collect\u00e9es!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>97 jours en mer \u00e0 collecter les donn\u00e9es avec l\u2019aide de 18 volontaires<\/li>\n<li>413 rencontres photo-identifi\u00e9es avec des requins baleines<\/li>\n<li>150 individus recens\u00e9s, dont 17 femelles et 121 m\u00e2les identifi\u00e9s<\/li>\n<li>63 de ces requins \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9sents dans notre base de donn\u00e9es comme Michel, Ernest, Th\u00e9odore, Ignace &#8230;<\/li>\n<li>87 requins nouvellement identifi\u00e9s<\/li>\n<li>19 mesures st\u00e9r\u00e9o-vid\u00e9o, un outil con\u00e7u par le Dr Jesse Cochran pour mesurer plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment la longueur du requin-baleine<\/li>\n<li>5,2 m est (toujours!) la taille moyenne des requins de la baie de Nosy Be<\/li>\n<li>18 rencontres avec Michel, soit 84 fois vues depuis 2015\u2026<\/li>\n<li>408 est le total de requins identifi\u00e9s depuis 2015!<\/li>\n<li>554 questionnaires collect\u00e9s pour notre \u00e9tude sur l\u2019industrie du tourisme marin \u00e0 Nosy Be<\/li>\n<li>1 exp\u00e9dition r\u00e9alis\u00e9e pour visiter un site d&rsquo;alimentation sur la c\u00f4te Nord Ouest de Madagascar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aucun des 408 requins immatures de Nosy Be n&rsquo;a encore \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 dans les pays voisins (cf base de donn\u00e9es mondiale www.whaleshark.org), ce qui sugg\u00e8re un manque de connectivit\u00e9 r\u00e9guli\u00e8re entre les requins \u00e0 Nosy Be et d&rsquo;autres agr\u00e9gations c\u00f4ti\u00e8res connues dans l&rsquo;ouest de l&rsquo;Inde Oc\u00e9an.<\/p>\n<p>Un grand merci \u00e0 tous ceux qui ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la collecte de donn\u00e9es de cette ann\u00e9e et qui nous ont aid\u00e9 d&rsquo;une mani\u00e8re ou d&rsquo;une autre!<\/p>\n<p>En ces temps tourment\u00e9s, nous continuons \u00e0 travailler sur des publications \u00e0 venir.
