    The faces behind the project

    Meet our project family

    Stella

    Stella founded the project after seing a whale shark in 2014. Director, scientific lead and photographer.

    Léonce

    Léonce joined in 2018 as our first student and never left. Guide and photo-ID pro.

    Armel

    Armel joined in 2023 for his masters thesis, now is a PhD student at IH.SM on whale shark feeding ecology.

    Noel

    Armel is the captain of our research boat Ad Astra, an experienced whale shark spotter and surface safety officer.

    Brian

    After doing his masters thesis on whale shark tourism, Brian is coordinating the ambassador project data collection on tourism impact.

    Miary

    Miary is doing his masters thesis with us, focusing on a novel project on the dynamics of small-scale fishing of mobulid rays and other elasmobranchs in Nosy Be.

    Mialisoa

    After doing her master thesis in 2024 on whale shark presence dynamics, Mialisoa now supports the team as a research assistant.

    Bruno Hélio

    As a Nosy Be native, Bruno is one of our ambassadors, and helps us with tourism compliance issues.

    Marion

    Marion runs our accounts and administrative aspects, and coordinates the ambassador program.

    Alice

    Alice keeps the database organised and clean, and creates amazing social media visuals.

    Romain

    Romain designed our website and graphics. UX/UI Designer.

    Justin

    Justin designed from scratch our survey app for data collection at sea. Data Scientist.

    Kate

    Kate first joined on an expedition in 2019, and manages bookings for our science trips.

    Margaux

    Margaux is a regular visitor since 2016 and runs our adoption programme.

    Guillaume

    Guillaume first joined as a volunteer in 2017 and is now a freediving instructor, tech wizard and guide.

    But we are not alone.
