Everything you wanted to know about whale sharks

Join us for a day or a week to discover whale sharks by our side. You will discover the daily life of a whale shark research program and contribute directly to our efforts. For each animal we encounter, we collect data using a tablet and our cameras. When possible, we take skin samples and deploy tags. Our days are focussed on research and quality interactions, and are led by founder Stella Diamant.

As a small foundation, we choose to welcome tourists aboard our boat in order to raise awareness about scientific research and its essential role in the conservation of endangered species such as whale sharks. By coming out with us, you will benefit from our knowledge as the only scientific program dedicated to whale sharks in Madagascar.

We are not a tour operator, but we work with our long-standing partners Baleines Rand'eau and Freedive Nosy Be, as well as travel agency Whisper & Wild for our trips.

We cannot guarantee encounters nor the success of our activities. Whale sharks are free and wild animals, and interactions will always be carried out in accordance with the code of conduct. We take our time and do our best to offer you unforgettable encounters while collecting our data. This experience allows you to witness scientific research in action and interact with our team members, including our Malagasy students.

Our different trips

Science Day

On a dedicated research boat, you will be accompanied by our science team, such as our Malagasy students and scientific partners. We also will visit Korai‘s nursery site, with coral planter Dayda. We leave with our picnic to be able to adapt to the animals and stay longer at sea!

Science Week

Each year, we are running our own whale shark science week, where we provide unique expertise and insights into our daily work. Join us for a week of dedicated research trips and daily presentations, and learn more about whale shark science and conservation, while swimming with whale sharks every day.

Freedive X Science

This trip is run in partnership with local freediving school Freedive Nosy Be, and is designed for nature lovers who wish to improve their freediving skills (depth and exploration) while diving into the the daily life of a scientific program dedicated to whale sharks.

Every day you will have a freediving session first, then head out to swim with whale sharks. You will also be able to undertake SSI freediving certifications.
